Richard Lugar, a RINO senator from Indiana, wants to reinstate the Clinton assault weapons ban.
Just so we’re clear, there is no such thing as an “assault weapon.” It’s a made-up term that’s used to scare people into believing a particular style of rifle is something that it’s not. For example, the various M16 models are assault rifles. They are select-fire rifles capable of firing in semi-automatic, three-round-burst or fully automatic modes. The AR-15, a dreaded “assault weapon,” is merely a semi-automatic rifle that happens to look like its select-fire cousins.
Since the gun ban lobby couldn’t get away with calling the AR-15, as well as other semi-auto rifles that have the same appearance as actual military rifles, an assault rifle, they coined the term”assault weapon. Assault rifle, assault weapon, see how that works.
The assault weapons ban did nothing more than ban firearms based on their cosmetic features. With a few cosmetic changes, a rifle banned by that law could be changed into one that wasn’t. I repeat, with a few cosmetic changes, a rifle could go from one that was banned to one that wasn’t.
I also want to comment on the issue of magazines. The gun ban lobby constantly refers to high-capacity magazines. That is a lie as much as assault weapon is. The magazines they refer to has high-capacity are in reality standard capacity. For example, a 15-round magazine for a Glock 22, or a 30-round magazine for an AR-15. Defining anything with a capacity of more than ten rounds as high-capacity is just another attempt to scare people.
With regard to ammunition sales, Lugar noted the increase since the shootings, which he thought was due to fears that Congress might pass more gun control legislation.
Well, no shite, Sherlock! Did he have a run-in the clue bat?
New York hoplophobe Chuck Schumer wants to prohibit you from buying a gun if you’ve ever used illegal drugs and admitted such use to a federal official, like a military recruiter.
No, you don’t have to be convicted or anything.
Maybe people should be prohibited from holding elected office if they’ve ever supported legislation or policies that violate our rights.

Well, one Susie Madrak is under the impression we should have to pay for the privilege of exercising our rights.
Funny she doesn’t suggest a way to get the criminals to pay for this insurance. I guess all the bad guys will turn in their guns because they don’t want to pay the premiums.
But it’s not about public safety or preventing crime, is it?

What America really needs is more “good people” with guns!
If you’re a proponent of draconian gun control, move to Chicago and let me know how that works out for you.

Well, our favorite hoplophobe in the U.S. House of Representatives has released the text of a bill she plans to introduce to Congress next week.
Rep. Carolyn McCarthy’s (D-Shoulder Thing) bill would outlaw the sale or transfer of these “high-capacity” death machines, even those obtained before the rights-restricting law takes effect.
Dearest Carolyn wants Congress to develop reasonable restrictions laws that ensure our rights guaranteed by the Second Amendment are exercised safely and responsibly. In other words, “Your plastic doohickey thingies scare me, so you’re not allowed to play with them.”
In other news, DPMS is having a sale on magazines that would send Sarah Brady, Paul Helmke and Carolyn McCarthy spinning. We’re talking 30, 45, 90 and 100 round magazines here!!!!!111111ELEVENTY!!! Oh, the huge manatee!
In still more news, I just talked to my gun guy. I ordered some more PMAGs, and when he was placing the order, his supplier told him their shelves were dry. They sold 7,000 magazines in one day.
Looks like Carolyn is well on her way to being the Gun Salesman of the Year for 2011.
John Bryson Chane, the Episcopal Bishop of Washington, thinks Congress should consider amending the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution because it’s outdated.
Perhaps he should talk with the Congressional Democrats who are hell-bent on pushing legislation that would restrict the First Amendment free speech rights of Americans because Congresscritters think they’re above being criticized in ways they think are “inflammatory.” I’d recommend he also talk to them about that whole freedom of religion thing and amend it to prohibit clergy from opining on things they know nothing about, particularly the Second Amendment.
And Bishop Chane, you’re not helping your case by referring to the Brady Bunch. Their record when it comes to preventing gun violence isn’t too good.
Perhaps you should stick to religion. Your church isn’t exactly known for its adherence to orthodox Christianity.

That didn’t take long.
New York Democrat, and well known firearms expert, Carolyn McCarthy plans to introduce more gun control legislation targeting the shoulder thing that goes up, er, who knows what given McCarthy’s well-documented lack of knowledge on the subject.
According to her spokesman, the legislation will target high-capacity ammunition clips. It is not known whether those are the words of the spokesman or the “authorized journalist” who wrote the story. Not that it matters. Hoplophobia requires ignorance.
Illinois Representative and fellow hoplophobe Mike Quigley also opines on the subject, claiming to know the needs of hunters and what people need to defend their homes.
Just know this. These two will not do anything to make people safer. Their hatred of guns in particular and liberty in general precludes that. All they care about is making sure you will always be a victim at the hands of people who don’t care about their silly laws.
John Boehner should tell these two fools just where they can put there proposed legislation.

Whilst looking through the items Google Reader recommended to me, I found yet another example of a Leftist blaming Republicans, Sarah Palin, conservatives, et al. for the shooting in Arizona.
And grieve for what we’ve lost as a country. I grieve because our elected government worked so hard to give us a landmark healthcare program, and we’re all too selfish and stupid to accept it. Instead of working together to continue to improve the lives of the American people, newly-elected Republicans have made it their mandate to undo the last two years of progress. And now their hateful “take back our country” rhetoric has resulted in a politician getting shot in the head.
No, Derek, conservatism didn’t have anything to do with that shooting. Why must you and your ilk go out of your way to lay blame everywhere but where it belongs?
I will now take a play from the Limbaugh playbook and illustrate absurdity by being absurd.
I have to ask why suspected shooter Jared Lee Loughner is even in custody and why he’s been charged. The plethora of “evidence” provided by various Leftist sources, whether on TV or the interwebs, clearly shows that others are to blame. And if this case goes to trial, perhaps these individuals with such an over-abundance of evidence should be called to the stand by the defense.
Clinton tried this crap after the Oklahoma City bombing, but, unfortunately for him, the people who were actually accused of the crime were charged and convicted and not those who had nothing to do with it.
Likewise, the individual accused of this crime has been charged and will have his day in court.
Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, the Republicans who control the U.S. House of Representatives, the NRA, me and whoever else the Leftist kooks want to blame for this tragedy have not been charged with a crime. Either this is a huge oversight on the part of the prosecution, or it’s because we had nothing to do with this crime. It’s obvious what a large chunk of the moonbatosphere believes.
Blaming Colonel Mustard makes about as much sense, doesn’t it?
Additionally, radical Leftists are already looking for ways to further infringe on our rights by making it a crime to say things or draw symbols that might be construed to be threatening. They want to examine our already draconian gun laws to see if they can be made more draconian. Because, as we all know, making something illegal even more illegaller will fix the problem.
I will give Derek credit for one thing, though.
We know that the murder weapon was a 9mm Glock 19 handgun with a 30-round magazine.
He knows enough about guns to call it a magazine and not a clip.

Mike at Everyday, No Days Off reviewed the Munitio [M] BLK Tactical Earphone™.
I can neither confirm nor deny that I have a set of these. Likewise, I can’t say whether or not I agree with Mike’s review.
If I did have a set, though, I bet they’d sound awesome.
Also, I wouldn’t fly with them given the fact that the IQ of the average TSA agent is lower than that of a small pebble. I wouldn’t want to lose them to an incompetent fool who thinks they’re real 9mm cartridges and that he’s keeping a flight safe from some imaginary threat.

Uncyclopedia describes the Glock.
Glock’s first handgun model was the Glock 17, a 40 x 53 mm high-explosive select-fire pistol with a magazine capacity of 24 rounds (which was unusually large at the time.) The handgun came with a scope capable of picking out moving targets against a static background with day or night thermal vision. Each high-explosive round (traditionally called, “grenades”) is capable of being detonated upon reaching a preset range, giving it the ability to spray shrapnel on targets regardless of cover. A Glock 17 is capable of demolishing a Humvee with a single three-round burst.
Go read the whole thing. It’s pretty funny.
